    Uttar Pradesh to plant 35 crore saplings on July 12

    Uttar Pradesh will launch a massive plantation drive on July 12, aiming to plant 35 crore saplings in a single day as part of the state’s Vriksharopan Mahabhiyan 2026 campaign, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on Friday.

    Reviewing preparations via video conference, the CM said the Uttar Pradesh plantation drive was intended to function as a public movement rather than a routine government exercise, with success measured by sapling survival rather than volume planted alone, an official statement said.

    The state has set a target of raising green cover to 15% by 2030 and 20% by 2047, the statement said. To meet that goal, authorities plan to plant 35 crore saplings annually over the next five years, a pace they say could help absorb nearly 72 million tonnes of carbon dioxide.

    The CM directed departments to complete verification of plantation sites, ensure sapling availability, carry out geo-tagging and arrange irrigation ahead of the drive. He called for participation from citizens, students, farmers, elected representatives and voluntary organisations.

    Officials from the departments of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Rural Development, Agriculture, Horticulture, Panchayati Raj, Revenue and Urban Development presented their action plans during the review.

    The CM also directed that beneficiaries of the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme be linked to the campaign, and said a mix of fruit-bearing, shade-giving, medicinal and timber species should be planted.

    State data show Uttar Pradesh added about 3.38 lakh acres of forest and tree cover between 2017 and 2023, with total cover rising to 9.96% from 9.18% over that period. The state has planted 242 crore saplings since 2017, compared with 51.48 crore between 2009 and 2016, according to the review.

    The campaign also includes several themed initiatives — Mission Chhaya, Samaras Van, Samriddhi Van, City Van, Kapi Van, Maharshi Charak Aushadhi Van, Urja Van, Pauranik Van and Aviral Dhara Van — designed to support biodiversity, reduce heat stress and promote agroforestry across the state.

    HCLFoundation seeks NGO applications for Rs 24 Crore HCLTech Grant Edition XII

    HCLFoundation has invited applications from non-profit organisations across India for Edition XII of the HCLTech Grant, Rs 24 crore initiative targeting transformative rural development across four themes — water, biodiversity, health and education.

    The corporate social responsibility arm of global technology company HCLTech is accepting submissions at www.hclfoundation.org/hcltech-grant until June 30, 2026, the Foundation said in a statement on Thursday.

    Four winning organisations, one from each theme, will receive Rs 5 crore each. Eight additional NGOs will receive Rs 50 lakh each for proposed projects across the same categories.

    “Some of the most transformative solutions emerge from grassroots organisations deeply connected to the communities they serve,” said Dr Nidhi Pundhir, Director, HCLFoundation.

    “Through this edition of HCLTech Grant, we aim to provide a platform for NGOs to unleash their potential, scale innovative ideas and create sustainable change.”

    The HCLTech Grant has to date reached 2.3 million lives across 61,000 villages in India. Funded initiatives have resulted in the planting of more than three lakh saplings, rejuvenation of over 68,300 hectares of land and a reduction of more than 67,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions. Total commitments under the programme now exceed ₹203 crore.

    Winners of Edition XI included Gramin Vikas Vigyan Samiti from Rajasthan, Live Foundation from Jharkhand, Goodwill Foundation from Mizoram and Mahila Jan Adhikar Samiti from Rajasthan, each receiving Rs 5 crore for projects spanning water harvesting, biodiversity conservation, healthcare access and gender equality through education.

    HCLFoundation also announced the HCLTech Grant Edition XII Pan India Symposiums 2026, scheduled in Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Nagpur and New Delhi, to bring together NGOs, government bodies, corporates and policymakers on the role of CSR in nation building.

    HCLFoundation has positively impacted over 8.4 million lives through long-term programmes in education, health, sanitation, skill development, environment and disaster risk reduction.

    HDFC Bank Parivartan has built and restored over 15,289 water structures across more than 10,430 villages, delivering a powerful boost to rural water security and benefiting 14.92 lakh households.

    The flagship CSR programme has also provided access to safe drinking water in over 950 villages through community purification systems using UV, RO, and multi-stage filtration technology, supported by dedicated water tanks, tap connections, and regular quality monitoring.

    From farm ponds and check dams to jal minars, rainwater harvesting systems, lift irrigation, and recharge wells, HDFC Bank Parivartan has created diverse water assets tailored to local needs, especially helping tribal farming communities in Central India.

    Powering long-term impact, the bank combines every water structure with agricultural support including micro irrigation systems, shade net houses, Bio-Input Resource Centres, and multilayer farming. These integrated efforts have significantly increased irrigated area, reduced dependence on erratic rainfall, and improved crop yields for smallholder farmers.

    Community ownership remains central to the programme’s success. Women’s Self-Help Groups and Water User Associations actively participate in Village Action Plans, while GIS-based planning and convergence with government schemes like MGNREGA ensure precision and sustainability. Trained water user groups focus on water budgeting and judicious usage to keep assets productive for years.

    “At HDFC Bank Parivartan, we meet communities where they are — whether building ice stupas in the mountains or installing purification plants in villages that never had clean tap water,” said Ms. Nusrat Pathan, Head of CSR, HDFC Bank.

    “Through Parivartan, our work spans watershed development, rainwater harvesting, rejuvenation of water bodies, last-mile irrigation infrastructure, and climate-smart agricultural practices. Over 15,000 water structures and safe drinking water for nearly a thousand villages is a major milestone, but the real success lies in fields now yielding a second crop and children no longer falling ill from contaminated water. We remain committed to building a water-secure India,” she added.

    Natural Resource Management was introduced as a dedicated focus area under Parivartan in FY 2024-25, integrating water conservation with afforestation, soil health, and solar energy. The programme supports Sustainable Development Goal 6 (clean water and sanitation) and SDG 13 (climate action).

    HDFC Bank Parivartan operates across six key pillars — Rural Development, Education, Skill Development & Livelihood Enhancement, Healthcare & Hygiene, Financial Literacy & Inclusion, and Natural Resource Management. As of March 2025, it has positively impacted over 10.56 crore lives across 28 states and 8 Union Territories. In FY 2024-25, HDFC Bank spent Rs. 1,068.03 crore on CSR activities under the Parivartan umbrella.
