AWL transforms recycled plastic into park benches

AWL Agri Business Ltd, formerly Adani Wilmar Limited, has adopted and revamped a public park opposite ICB Flora Apartment in Gota, Ahmedabad, under a five-year maintenance agreement with the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC).

As part of the initiative, the company transforms 1,100 kg of recycled plastic from Fortune packaging into 43 benches installed across the park, in a move it says reflects its focus on circularity and responsible resource utilisation.

Senior leaders from AWL Agri Business, along with AMC officials and local corporators, conducted a “Green Walk” through the park, planting trees and distributing saplings to visitors to encourage community participation in sustainability efforts.

“We, at AWL Agri Business, believe that sustainability is not limited to our operations and products. It is also about creating meaningful impact in the communities where we operate,” said Shrikant Kanhere, Managing Director and CEO, AWL Agri Business Ltd.

“The benches, made using recycled Fortune packaging material, further reflect our commitment to circularity and responsible resource utilisation.”

Spread across 19,000 square metres, the park has been developed as a recreational space featuring green landscaping, a children’s play area, a jogging track, gazebos and drinking water facilities, while contributing to local biodiversity.

The company said the initiative demonstrates how recycled plastic and packaging waste can be given a second life within everyday community infrastructure, forming part of its broader corporate social responsibility strategy in urban environments.

AWL Agri Business, whose flagship brand is Fortune, operates more than 80 manufacturing facilities across 11 states, including India’s largest single-location refinery in Mundra with a capacity of 5,000 tonnes per day. The company serves more than 135 million households through a network of over 10,000 distributors and 2.6 million retail outlets.

Tata Chemicals launches school support programme in Gujarat

Tata Chemicals Society for Rural Development (TCSRD), the CSR arm of Tata Chemicals Limited, has launched a School Support Programme in Okhamandal in partnership with the Coastal Salinity Prevention Cell (CSPC), to address teacher shortages in government schools and strengthen education quality across the block.

While the Right to Education (RTE) Act mandates quality education for children from Classes 1 to 8, several government schools in Okhamandal require additional academic support to ensure continuity in classroom learning. To bridge this gap, TCSRD and CSPC have recruited and trained 120 local education volunteers who will provide academic support across primary and secondary schools.

    The School Support Programme includes:

    • 40 Primary School Volunteers to support government primary schools facing teacher shortages
    • 44 Remedial Education Volunteers to strengthen foundational literacy and numeracy
    • 16 High School Educators to provide Mathematics and Science support for Classes 9 and 10
    • 13 Re-enrolment and NIOS Instructors to help out-of-school children and youth continue their education through the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS)
    • 7 Academic Enhancement Educators to strengthen the overall learning environment across villages

The programme was formally launched on August 4, 2026, at Sabras Bhavan, Mithapur, in the presence of Pabubha Virambha Manek, Member of the Legislative Assembly, Devbhumi Dwarka; Madhuben Bhatt, District Primary Education Officer; R. V. Odedra, Taluka Development Officer, Devbhumi Dwarka; Bharatbhai Karmata, Vice President, Dwarka Taluka Panchayat; Bhurabha Jadiya, Block Resource Centre Coordinator; Aashaben Parmar, Taluka Education Coordinator; and Rino Raj, Vice President Manufacturing, India, Tata Chemicals Ltd.

“At Tata Chemicals, we believe quality education is fundamental to long-term community development. Through this partnership, we aim to ensure that students continue to receive uninterrupted learning support while creating opportunities for local youth to contribute to the education ecosystem,” Raj said, adding that the initiative is expected to strengthen schools and encourage more children to stay connected with education.

The School Support Programme reflects TCSRD’s continued focus on improving access to quality education through collaborative, community-led interventions, the company said, adding that the initiative aims to build a stronger learning ecosystem for children across Okhamandal by working closely with local institutions and government schools.

CSPC is a specialized resource organization focused on mitigating coastal salinity, supporting land and water resource management, and enhancing rural livelihoods across coastal Gujarat.

TCSRD is the social development arm of Tata Chemicals, working on livelihoods, women’s empowerment, education, healthcare and sustainability to build resilient rural communities across India.

Tata Chemicals Limited, part of the over USD 180 billion Tata Group, is a leading supplier to the glass, detergent, industrial and chemical sectors, with a strong position in crop protection through subsidiary Rallis India Limited.

Syngenta India sponsors 650 motorised tricycles to empower specially abled citizens in Madhya Pradesh

Agro-innovation company Syngenta India has launched what it called a first-of-its-kind corporate social responsibility initiative, committing to sponsor 650 motorised tricycles for specially abled individuals in Madhya Pradesh, in a move that links agricultural enterprise with disability inclusion.

The first batch of vehicles was handed over on Sunday by Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan at the Unnat Krishi Mahotsav 2026, an agriculture exhibition and conference held in Raisen, Madhya Pradesh, on April 12.

“Empowering them with mobility is a critical step towards ensuring dignity, inclusion, and self-reliance,” Chouhan said, adding that the government remained committed to addressing the needs of marginalised communities, including the Divyangjan — a Hindi term for persons with disabilities. He singled out the Vidisha region, his parliamentary constituency, as a focus area for broader mobility initiatives.

Chouhan framed the distribution of motorised tricycles not merely as a mobility intervention but as a pathway to economic participation, saying recipients could use the vehicles as livelihood tools and engage in local rural economies.

Vivek Sharma, officiating Managing Director and Head of Marketing at Syngenta India, said the initiative was anchored in the company’s sustainability priorities, integrating social inclusion with agricultural advancement. He said the programme aimed to support last-mile connectivity, on-farm engagement and participation in rural enterprises across the agricultural value chain.

Sharma said Syngenta planned to complement the mobility support with skill development and improved market access, with the stated aim of enabling “long-term transformation at the grassroots.”

Syngenta India has operated in Madhya Pradesh through several community development programmes, including I RISE, a rural skilling initiative; I CLEAN, a market-access and hygiene awareness programme; and I SAFE, which promotes responsible use of agricultural inputs. At the Raisen exhibition, the company showcased new products and technologies for farmers.
